Raiders ranked 20th in first college grid poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the seventh consecutive season, the Southern Oregon University football team will open attached to an NAIA Top 25 ranking, sitting at No. 20 in the preseason coaches’ poll that was released Monday.

Morningside (Iowa) is the defending champion and unanimous No. 1 pick, garnering all 16 first-place votes after going unbeaten through 2018.

Three other Frontier Conference joined SOU in the poll: CCC preseason favorite College of Idaho at No. 15, defending champion Rocky Mountain (Montana) at No. 23 and Montana Western at No. 25.

Last season, the Raiders debuted at No. 4 and topped out at No. 2 after opening with four straight wins. A four-game losing streak took them out, and they wrapped up with a 6-4 record in a four-way tie for second place.

They’ll play their first game against a ranked opponent on Sept. 14 at College of Idaho. The first poll of the regular season will be released two days later.

Tickets for SOU’s home schedule — which starts Sept. 7 against Eastern Oregon — are on sale at souraiders.com/tickets. The team will hold its first full-squad practice this weekend.
