Ashland native Kaegi earns national honor

OTTAWA, Kan. — Ottawa University (Kansas) senior quarterback and Ashland High School graduate Connor Kaegi has been named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced on Monday evening.

Kaegi, who was also named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, rallied the Braves from a 15-point halftime deficit to a 35-34 victory last Saturday over Southwestern College. He went 33-for-47 (70.2%) through the air for a career high 432 yards and three touchdowns. Kaegi led the Braves in rushing with 33 yards and one touchdown.

It is Kaegi’s second time of winning the award, with the first time coming last October after he accounted for six touchdowns — three passing and three rushing — and went 23-for-32 for 269 and rushed for 83 yards in a 52-24 win over McPherson College.

It is the 12th time overall that an OU football player has received the award.
