Raiders Suell, Holmes earn honors

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University receiver Jordan Suell was a first-team selection and defensive lineman Tre Holmes received second-team recognition when the All-Frontier Conference honorees were announced Tuesday by the FC office.

Suell, a 6-foot-6 senior from Vancouver, Wash., ranked second in the Frontier and eighth in the NAIA with 12 receiving touchdowns and averaged a career-high 75.8 reception yards on 19.9 per catch.

He went out as the hottest target in the country by totaling eight TD catches over SOU’s last five games and in one stretch posted three consecutive 100-yard efforts.

Despite missing most of his junior season, Suell ended his career with 27 reception TDs, the fourth most in SOU history. He was also just the 10th Raider to accumulate 2,000-plus reception yards, finishing with 2,184.

Holmes, a 6-foot, 265-pound junior tackle from Medford, attracted heavy attention as usual on the defensive line. He finished the season with 26 tackles, two for losses and two fumble recoveries. In his career as a Raider, he’s recorded 17 tackles for losses and 12 sacks.

Holmes, along with junior linebacker Collin Crown, was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 selection last week.

Sophomore receiver Stokes Botelho was SOU’s NAIA Champion of Character recipient.

College of Idaho quarterback Darius-James Peterson was voted the FC offensive player of the year. For the second season in a row, Montana Western linebacker Jason Ferris took top defensive honors.
