Three SOU soccer players earn honors
ASHLAND — Three Southern Oregon University soccer defenders — seniors Trinity Rhoades and Brionna Wood representing the women’s team, and junior Zak Woolley from the men’s team — were named all-Cascade Conference second team for the spring season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Alan Gaytan, a sophomore midfielder/forward, and Moises Hernandez, a freshman midfielder, received honorable mention for the Raider men. Bella Hopkins, a junior defender, was honorable mention for the women.
Rhoades is now a two-time all-conference team member, and Wood earned a promotion after receiving honorable mention in 2019. They, along with Hopkins, helped the Raiders finish third in the Cascade Conference West Division with a 5-4-1 record, and at one point turned in five consecutive clean sheets.
Rhoades also distributed a team-high three assists for the Raiders, who outscored their opponents 11-8.
Woolley is also now a two-time all-CCC honoree. The Raiders’ CCC season was cut short at four games, but they went 3-1 and gave up just one goal behind Woolley’s efforts.
Gaytan and Hernandez scored two goals and were credited with one assist apiece.
The SOU men’s team has added a non-conference game to complete its season, 5 p.m. Sunday against Humboldt State (Calif.) at Raider Stadium.
