Daniel named NAIA’s best in the West
ASHLAND — Ahead of her fourth and final appearance at the NAIA Outdoor Championships, Southern Oregon senior Arianna Daniel has been named the West Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday.
Daniel, a sprinter from Elk Grove, Calif., who started her career with the Raiders in 2017, currently appears on the NAIA leaderboard in four events: she’s No. 3 in the 400 meters (55.39 seconds), No. 11 in the 200 (24.32), No. 25 in the 100 (12.05), and is part of SOU’s No. 5-ranked relay team (46.56).
In last weekend’s Cascade Conference Championships, Daniel became the first individual in meet history to complete a career sweep of the 400 while establishing new meet and personal records. She and the 4x100 team also won for the fourth year in a row with meet and school records, and a day later she broke her own 200 school record and turned in a third-place effort in the 100.
In four years at the conference meet, Daniel was a 12-time champion and 19-time All-CCC performer.
Overall this season, she’s won nine of the 12 individual races she’s entered.
She’ll be at the NAIA Outdoor Championships next Wednesday through Friday in Gulf Shores, Alabama, attempting to add to her total of seven All-America plaques.
