ASHLAND — One match into the season, the Southern Oregon University volleyball team climbed four spots to No. 21 in the first NAIA Top 25 coaches’ poll of the regular season on Wednesday.

The Raiders swept their opener Thursday against Simpson (Calif.), 25-17, 25-10, 25-16, which was their first match since December 2019. They’ll play four more on Friday and Saturday at the William Jessup Invitational in Rocklin, Calif., facing Menlo (Calif.), UC Merced, William Jessup and Simpson.

Those contests will set up their first Cascade Conference match, Sept. 3 at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho).

Elsewhere in the CCC, Corban (6-0) moved up eight spots to No. 7 and Eastern Oregon (2-2) dropped eight to No. 14. Bushnell is receiving votes.

Defending NAIA champion Missouri Baptist remains the unanimous No. 1.

The next poll will be released on Sept. 13, at which time the Raiders will have eight more matches under their belts.
