Medford’s Olson gains acclaim on NCAA website

Medford’s Dante Olson was recently honored by ncaa.com as one of its top-5 players of all time for the University of Montana football program.

Olson, who starred at Cascade Christian High before venturing to Montana, came in at No. 5 on the listing after the linebacker became the second player in Montana history to win the Buck Buchanan Award in 2019.

Olson won the award after breaking the school record for single-season tackles for the second consecutive year with 179 total tackles, the most across any level of college football. He also broke safety Vince Huntsberger’s all-time career tackles record, leading ncaa.com to proclaim Olson as the best tackler in Grizzlies history.

Also earning special recognition was Eagle Point’s Tyrone Holmes, who was named the FCS Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 as a defensive lineman.
