Shady Cove man in custody after 7-hour standoff
Jackson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an armed man in Shady Cove who was threatening "suicide by cop" Monday around 6 p.m.
The suspect, Andrew James Hind, 48, had fired four rounds in his home - a converted garage behind his parent's main residence in the 200 block of Deer Park Drive in Shady Cove.
Deputies said when they arrived, Hind came outside several times armed with a long-barreled weapon and taunted them.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was called in and nearby residences were evacuated. The Hostage Negotiating Team was also called to the scene. After a 7 ½-hour standoff Hind surrendered.
Hind was arrested on four counts of Use or Carrying of a Weapon, 1 count of Endangering, 2 counts of Unlawful Use of a Laser Pointer and 1 count of Disorderly Conduct II. He was taken into custody at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 17 and lodged in the Jackson County Jail with a bail of $35,000, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
