Heavy rain could cause flooding

Staff reports

Slow-moving storms dumping heavy rain this afternoon could cause flash flooding of small creeks and streets, the National Weather Service warns.

The weather service's Medford office has issued a flash flood watch that goes into effect at 3 p.m. today for Jackson, Josephine and eastern Curry counties.

Scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening over southwestern Oregon. Although the storms could develop anywhere over the region, each one will be limited in the area it affects, forecasters said.

It's nearly impossible to pick exactly where these heavy storms will show up, said forecaster Mike Petrucelli.
