Medford police issued seven citations for prohibited camping and being in a park after hours on a nighttime sweep along the Bear Creek Greenway.
Officers worked along the bike and walking trail through town late Wednesday and early Thursday, seeking to stop people from being in the park after hours or drinking in public and to prohibit teen drinking, disorderly conduct and illegal camping.
Such activities reduce the quality of life in parks and affect the use of the Greenway by the law-abiding citizens, Medford police Lt. Brett Johnson said in a news release.
Police plan periodic enforcement actions to help enhance parks and trails. Officials post notices about upcoming enforcement to remind people of the law. During the enforcement sweeps, officers provide information about social services the homeless population can access.
Next week, Jackson County Community Justice crews plan to clean up abandoned transient camp sites along the Greenway.
