Medford driver backs over toddler
Medford police have arrested a man for allegedly backing his car over a toddler on Saturday morning as horrified onlookers screamed for him to stop.
Two-year-old Holly Wood was transported by Mercy Flights ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where she was treated for a broken left kneecap in addition to multiple bruises and abrasions, police said.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, Kevin Michael Jennings, 30, was backing out of the driveway at the home of of his cousin, Joyce Cavin, in the trailer park at 2385 Table Rock Road when he struck the toddler, knocking her to the ground.
Witnesses reported that they began screaming at Jennings, but he continued backing his vehicle, running over the top of the girl, police said. The witnesses said Jennings then got out of his vehicle and, after hearing that police were called, drove it to his trailer at space No. 48. He later returned to the scene, where he was interviewed by officers, police said.
Jennings was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver resulting in an injury accident and tampering with physical evidence. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
He remained in the Jackson County Jail Monday on $20,000 bail.
