Jogger finds floating body In Lithia Amphitheater pond
The body of a transient identified as James Leroy Carter, 40, was found partially submerged in a large pond located behind the Lithia Amphitheater at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point about 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a possible dead body discovered by a passing jogger who reported the discovery to an employee at the Family Fun Center. The employee called 911.
A water rescue unit from Jackson County Fire District #3 also assisted with the case.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives and medical examiner investigators found no evidence of trauma or foul play and believe the subject may have died from an accidental drowning. Officials believe alcohol may have also been a factor. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by Jackson County Forensic Pathologist, James Olson, following an autopsy and toxicology testing.
The autopsy is expected to be completed early next week. The victim’s family has been notified.
