20-year-old Medford man killed in crash

A 20-year old Medford-area resident died Monday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to turn onto Highway 62 from a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) road near Lost Creek Lake in northern Jackson County.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Lieutenant Mark Walkup, on Aug. 3, 2009 at approximately 2:45 p.m. a 1959 Kenworth truck was being driven by Kris Carey, age 20, from Medford, as it was being moved from one log clearing site to a second site. The truck was attempting to turn from BLM Road "A" onto the eastbound lane of Highway 62 near milepost 23. Carey lost control while attempting to turn and the truck overturned two times before coming to rest on its top blocking the westbound lane.

Carey was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle was not equipped with safety restraints. He was working for Plumley Inc. out of White City.

OSP troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are completing the investigation. Shady Cove Police Department, Jackson County Rural Fire District 4, ODOT and the Jackson County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.

Highway 62 was restricted to one lane until about 6 p.m.
