Emerald Valley leads team event

Emerald Valley of Creswell took the first-day lead in the 82nd Oregon Golf Association Team Championship at Centennial Golf Club Saturday.

Emerald Valley shot a score of 1-over-par 217, five shots better than Eastmoreland of Portland. The top three scores (gross) from the four-man teams count.

There are 32 teams entered in the 36-hole tourney, which concludes today.

Three local teams are involved, but each was well back.

Rogue Valley Country Club is in four-way tie for 20th place at 235. Team members are Brad Bills, Paul Johnson, Eric Austad and Dane Smith.

Centennial No. 2 is 24th at 236. Players are Mark Wilson, Glen Clark, Rick Dimick and Jay Klemp.

Centennial No. 1 is 25th at 237. Members are Derek Zwagerman, Matt Grove, Steve Celayeta and Brian Robinson.

Junior Golf

OGA CHAMPIONS — Dylan Wu of Medford won the Intermediate Boys Division of the Oregon Golf Association Tournament of Champions Saturday at Eugene Country Club.

Wu, 13, shot a 1-over-par 73 on the 6,418-yard course to win by four strokes over Cole Madey of West Linn.

It was the 14th win of the season for Wu, who also claimed the prestigious Oregon Junior Amateur title this season in his division.

In other divisions, Kevin Murphy of Rogue River placed third in the Boys with a 78; in Girls, Sunshine Powers of Medford was 10th with an 85 and Cassandra Carothers of Jacksonville 12th with a 92.

In the Pee Wee Boys nine-hole tournament, Reese Fisher tied for sixth with a 13-over 48, and Jeremy Wu was 10th with a 57.
