Rogue Opera names director
Rogue Opera has appointed a Southern Oregon University department head to be its new general director. Noel Koran is director of SOU's department of performing arts, which comprises the former departments of music and theater arts. His appointment to Rogue Opera will be in addition to his duties at SOU, according to a press release.
Koran's opera experience spans more than 30 years as an opera singer, stage director, producer and educator both in Europe and the United States.
Koran will assume his duties as Rogue Opera general director immediately.
His appointment follows the Oct. 4 resignations of Rogue Opera's executive director, artistic director and the president of its board of directors over what were described as personality conflicts and differences over management style.
Rogue Opera was founded in 1976 by a group of musicians affiliated with Southern Oregon University. The mission of Rogue Opera is to present high quality opera to regional audiences, to train young performers, and to direct its resources into the education and enrichment of youth and community. It is currently one of only three opera companies in Oregon and the only opera company between Eugene and Sacramento.
