No cause yet for Talent blaze near 55-and-older homes
A fire burned to the edge of a 55-and-older community in Talent Thursday evening before crews from four departments stopped it.
The 5:46 p.m. blaze near the Oak Valley community burned 1.5 to 2 acres of heavy brush and trees, at one point threatening homes at the edge of the subdivision, said John McEvoy, an engineer for Jackson County Fire District No. 5, which serves the Talent area.
"The first unit (to arrive) saved a couple structures" in the subdivision off West Valley View Road, McEvoy said.
Witnesses said they saw children playing in the area before the fire started, but McEvoy said no cause has yet been determined.
Crews had the blaze under control in about an hour, McEvoy said.
Firefighters from Medford, Ashland and the Oregon Department of Forestry also worked on the fire. An ODF helicopter was at the scene but wasn't needed, McEvoy said.
