Cross Country Skiing

Dan Bulkey of Phoenix won all three of his races and Ashland resident Reider Peterson placed in three events in the four day National Masters Cross Country Skiing Championships held in Bend last weekend.

In the 85-89 age division, Bulkey recorded a time of 2:08.03 in the 15K half classic-half freestyle combined race, 1:12.05 in the 10K classic race and 2:14.02 in the 15K freestyle trek.

Peterson, who competed in the 65-69 age group, placed fourth in the 15K combined (1:06.00), fifth in the 10K classic (54:00) and fifth in the 20K freestyle (1:18.00).


Gordy Carrigan made a hole-in-one on the 175-yard 14th hole with a 3-hybrid at Centennial Golf Club on March 27.

Dave Knox aced the 138-yard 17th hole at Centennial Golf Club with an 8-iron on March 12.

Leo Bardes scored a hole-in-one from 93 yards out on hole No. 4 with an 8-iron at Bear Creek Golf Course on March 16th.

Sean Carnahan made a hole-in-one March 10 at Bear Creek Golf Course on hole No. 7 with an 8-iron. It measured 147 yards.

Larry Hoffman used a pitching wedge to knock in an ace 97-yard fifth hole at Bear Creek Golf Course on March 16.

Ken Gentry scored one stroke under his age with a 1-over-par 73 on the Senior Tour at Stone Ridge Golf Course on March 28.

Guerin Fischer sank a hole-in-one on hole No. 17 on March 28 at Stone Ridge Golf Course.


Maressa Epperson of the Southern Oregon Gymnastics Academy won a Level 7 state title on the vault at the Oregon State Gymnastics Championships Saturday and Sunday in Coos Bay.

Epperson, in the 7-10 division, scored 9.325 on the vault, was second on bars with a 9.55 and third in all-around with a 37.60.

At Level 8, the club's Allie D'Inzillo, Makayla Hickman and Jessica Hill qualified to regionals in Yakima, Wash., April 21-23 by scoring in the top 65 percent of all-around competitors, regardless of age.

D'Inzillo was third on floor (9.30) and beam (9.25) in the 14-year-old class, and Hickman was third on bars (9.3) for age 12. Hill competed in the 8-11 class.


Superior Stingray Swim Club competitors Kelsey Hoeper and Breanna Sapienza had strong outings at the Northwest Age Group Sectionals in Federal Way, Wash. on March 22-25.

Hoeper, 15, was second in the 100-meter freestyle in 54:06 in the 15-18 age group. She was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:01:30.

She also anchored relay teams with Anya Martinez, Kayla Heath and Chloe Beecher that placed sixth in the 200 free (1:46.06), 200 medley (4:23.1) and 400 free (3:50.79) and ninth in the 400 medley.

The 11-year-old Sapienza was sixth in the 50 fly in 29.25 and eighth in the 50 free (27.40), 100 free (1:00.04) and 100 fly (1:09.56).
