The North Medford seventh-grade Herricane Hoops team bounced the Scio Stampede 48-34 in the title game of the Oregon Amateur Basketball Tournament Sunday at Corvallis High.

North cruised to a 4-0 record for its second championship in two weeks,

McKensey Peters, Katie Williamson, Maryssa Becker, Morgan Lasota and Hayley Petersen all played well for the Herricanes.

Phoenix and South Medford Blue placed second and third, respectively, in their 14-team division.

Both teams posted 3-1 records and lost to Oregon City. The Pioneers handed Phoenix its first loss in 19 games, 77-73, in the championship game.


The South Medford sixth- and eighth-grade boys AAU teams each claimed titles at the Comet Classic tournament at Crater High Sunday.

Jack Singler poured in 27 points and Matt Retzlaff added 14 for the eighth-grade South Medford White team, which defeated North Medford Black, 65-50, in the championship game. North Medford's Alec Parker tossed in 13 points and Dallas Whitaker 12.

In the sixth-grade title game, South Medford Blue knocked off the Rogue Valley Wildcats. Jeff Turner led Blue with 22 points and Tristian Lallo chipped in with 15.


Griffin Creek Elementary's David DeCoste won the 12-13 age division in the Medford Elks free-throw contest. He moves on to district competition Saturday in Roseburg.
