The Southern Oregon Giants U10 and U12 baseball teams captured championships at the USSA Memorial Day Grand Slam Tournament at U.S. Cellular Community Park Monday.

Ben Quast and Trevor Archa led the U10 team to a 6-0 record and a 13-3 victory over the White Sox in the championship.

The U12 squad topped the Klamath Falls Cougars for the title, 12-2. Brady Breeze and Jared Evans each went 17-for-20 in the tourney, while Colton Westfall was 14-for-21 and Matt Lesota went 13-for-18.

The Giants' U13 team fell short to Klamath Falls in the title game, going 5-1. Brandon Robertson went 13-for-16 and had a game-winning hit in the semifinals. Christian Bowle added a 14-for-17 effort.

The three are ranked No. 1 in Oregon for their age groups.


Steve Rennick bowled a 300 game May 6 in the Wednesday Reno League at Lava Lanes.

Bruce Snook nearly had a perfect game with a 299 on May 20 at Lava Lanes in the Summer Seniors League.


John Codington hit a hole-in-one on the third hole at Tierra Oaks Golf Club in Redding, Calif., in the Ore-Cal Tierra Oaks Tournament.
