Colts take two from Comets
After South Medford's American Legion A baseball team held off a furious rally from Central Point in the opener, Colts pitcher Nate Namanny made sure there were no more dramatics in the twin bill.
Namanny pitched a two-hitter in the nightcap as the Colts thumped the Comets 11-1 in five innings to secure the sweep Friday at South Medford High.
South Medford (6-2) seized a 9-8 victory in the opener when Andrew Phillips scored on a Comet error.
Namanny went five innings, allowing one unearned run with four strikeouts. Kyle Seutter hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth and the game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Seutter, Namanny, Bryson Lake and Ryan Wellock all went 2-for-3 for the Colts. Lake also had three stolen bases and Seutter swiped two.
In Game 1, Central Point charged back from an 8-1 deficit to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh on Daniel Hill's two-run double. Mike Macuk hit a bases-clearing triple during the Comets' four-run sixth inning.
