Medford's John Benedetti won his third in as many weeks and his second-consecutive at Riverside Speedway in Cottage Grove on Saturday.

The claimed the modified championship after winning both the dash and heat.

Also from Medford, Brian Poppa came in second to Benedetti.


The Southern Oregon Giants 10U baseball team won their third tournament of the season, getting a win at U.S. Cellular Community Sports Park on Sunday.

The team was led by the all-around solid play by Benny Quast and Trevor Archa. Jacob Swartwout pitched a complete game and had a home run.

Travis Danielson added two home runs, one of which was the game-winning shot that propelled the Giants into the semifinals.


In 37 years of playing golf, Henry Amorin made his first hole-in-one, which came on the par 3 fourth hole at Centennial Golf Club on June 12.

The 61-year-old's son, Nick Amorin, witnessed the ace with a 3-hybrid from 199 yards out. Also seeing the shot were David Lords and James Casinola.


Michael Edmondson drained his third hole-in-one in a two-month span on the seventh hole at Bear Creek Golf Course on June 9.

The shot was witnessed by playing partners Bob Plummer and Larry Hackworth


Daniel Benne aced the fourth hole on June 10 at Bear Creek Golf Course.

Playing partner Danny West saw the feat.


Arnold Dawkins used his 8-iron sink a hole-in-one on the 115-yard 15th hole at Eagle Point Golf Club on June 14.

Playing partners Bill Sisson and Bill Ferguson were present for the shot.
