Mavericks sweep by Comets
Chris Anderson had the hot bat as the North Medford Mavericks swept an American Legion A Area 4 doubleheader against Central Point Tuesday at North Medford High.
North Medford defeated the Comets 7-5 in the opener and had to rally for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.
Anderson went 7-for-7 in the twin bill and scored what proved to be the winning run in Game 2.
The Mavericks (4-6 Area 4) scored four runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead in the first game. Jordan Frost had a two-run single and Cory Haggans and Travis Cash added RBI hits to fuel the outburst.
The Comets got all five runs in the fourth inning off North starter Will Allbright, who went the distance.
Anderson had three hits, while Michael Paxton and Frost added two apiece.
In Game 2, the Mavericks led 6-2 before Central Point erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to grab a one-run lead. The Comets combined four hits with two hit batters, two errors and one walk to take a 7-6 advantage.
North Medford answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. Anderson singled and scored the winning run on a triple by Haggans, who was thrown out at the plate on the play.
Anderson was 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI and Haggans and Alec Parker each had two hits.
For Central Point, Mike Macuk had three hits and one RBI.
