GP Downs admission free for races on Saturday
There will be free admission Saturday at Grants Pass Downs for Fan Appreciation Day.
"It's our way of thanking our fans for their patience," said Tag Wotherspoon, GP Downs director of communications and marketing. "Despite the weather, we are encouraged about what happened last weekend. We had great crowds both days and our patrons hung around and were understanding."
A late-afternoon storm dropped a sizeable amount of rainfall on the race track last Saturday, causing track officials to scrub the final three races. The track had not dried out enough Sunday, even after delaying the post time for two hours, forcing cancellation of the entire 11-race card.
The five trials for the $34,000 Firecracker Futurity, originally scheduled for last Sunday, will be run on Saturday. Additionally, the $3,000-added Southern Belle Handicap will be one of 12 races.
In celebration of Father's Day, all fathers will receive free admission on Sunday. The Daily Courier Inaugural Handicap will be the featured race.
Post time both days is 12:30 p.m.
Grants Pass Downs is located at the Josephine County Fairgrounds.
