RiverDawgs roar past San Jose, 16-3

The Southern Oregon RiverDawgs jumped on San Jose early and often Friday night and cruised to a 16-3 amateur baseball triumph at Harry & David Field.

Southern Oregon scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning without getting a hit as San Jose committed four of its seven errors in the frame. The RiverDawgs (9-4, 2-1 WCL Tri-State) tacked on three runs in the second and third innings and led 16-0 before the Seals finally scored in the eighth inning.

The RiverDawgs open a three-game league series at 7 tonight against the Folsom Pioneers (3-3 WCL Tri-State) at H&D.

Jeremy Cheney improved to 2-1 on the mound by allowing only three hits with two walks and three strikeouts in his seven innings. Marcus James went the final two innings and allowed one earned run.

Austin Coleman went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs to pace the 'Dawgs, while Tyler Davis was 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs and Austin Hogans 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

American Legion

SOUTH MEDFORD 13-9, NORTH JACKSON 3-1 — Andrew Phillips fired a four-hitter in the opener and South Medford belted a combined 20 hits to sweep the Area 4 twin bill at South Medford High.

Phillips didn't allow an earned run and he had two hits of his own with two runs scored and one RBI. Josh Havird added two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Colts, while Nate Namanny and Austin Griffin each added a pair of hits.

Brandon Dollarhide was 2-for-2 with three runs in Game 2 and Colt Wolf drove in two runs in each game for South Medford (17-3 Area 4). The Colts were granted four wins Friday when it was learned that Phoenix's American Legion A team had disbanded due to a lack of players.

Neiko Skogseth was 2-for-3 for North Jackson in the opener.

KLAMATH FALLS 8-11, NORTH MEDFORD 7-14 — One night after committing eight errors and still earning a win, North Medford committed 12 errors in Game 2 but used a four-run surge in the sixth inning to salvage an Area 4 split at North Medford High.

Michael Paxton went a combined 6-for-6 with four runs and five RBIs, while Jesse Hornbrook was 6-for-9 with two runs and four RBIs and Cory Pine 5-for-7 with three runs and two RBIs for the Mavericks (11-8, 8-8 Area 4).

Cory Haggans was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI in Game 2, while Jared White was 3-for-4 with two runs and Jordan Frost 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
