Crater's Tyerman fares well at junior nationals meet
EUGENE — Kayleigh Tyerman continued her impressive run through the summer, placing third and seventh in the 3,000 and 1,500 meters, respectively, at the 19-and-under junior nationals Sunday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
The meet was staged in conjunction with the U.S. Track and Field Championships, which attracted 10,000 fans.
Tyerman recently graduated from Crater High and will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall.
Her time in the 3,000 was 10 minutes, 11.47 seconds, which is about six seconds off of her personal best. She clocked 10:05.12 in April.
Elizabeth Hynes won in 9:51.0, followed by Emily Sisson in 9:55.31.
Tyerman's time in the 1,500 was 4:35.34. Her best is 4:29.39, set earlier this summer.
Jordan Hasay, who coincidentally hails from San Luis Obispo, won the 1,500 in 4:18.99.
Taylor Wallace of Henley High in Klamath Falls was third in 4:29.09.
