Miller, Pilots take twin bill from Colts
ASHLAND — Ashland pitcher Hayden Miller totaled eight shutout innings on the day — including a three-hitter in the nightcap — as the Pilots swept an American Legion A baseball doubleheader from error-prone South Medford in Area 4 action Tuesday.
The scores were 6-3 and 10-0.
Miller went the distance and struck out six in Game 2, which lasted just six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. In the opener, Miller yielded just one hit over two innings of relief.
The short-handed Colts (19-5, 17-5 Area 4) committed five errors in each game — four coming in the bottom of the fifth of Game 2, when the Pilots capitalized with six runs.
Miller went 2-for-3 in Game 1 and Luke Baldrica contributed a 2-for-3 effort.
Bryson Lake drove in all three Colt runs in Game 1 and went 2-for-4. Brandon Dollarhide went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
