Big innings propel Bend past RiverDawgs

BEND — Bend had two big innings and routed the Southern Oregon Riverdawgs, 13-3, in nonleague amateur baseball Tuesday.

The Elks scored five runs in the fourth inning to make it 6-0 and six in the eighth to put it away.

Riley Tubbs belted a solo home run to start the uprising in the fourth, and Kyle Beverley added a two-run single.

Southern Oregon dropped to 16-13 overall.

Travis Wolf was 3-for-5 for the Riverdawgs, and Austin Hogans had a triple and double, drove in a run and scored once.

The two teams meet again at 12:30 p.m. today.

American Legion

NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS 5-6, GRANTS PASS MINERS 3-9 — Cory Pine collected two hits and one RBI to pace North Medford in the American Legion A Area 4 opener at North Medford High.

The Mavericks (26-15, 18-10 Area 4) scored two runs in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Jessie Hornbrook began the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second. Cory Haggans followed with an RBI double, and Pine delivered a run-scoring single.

In Game 2, Grants Pass scored eight runs in the first four innings off North Medford starting pitcher Michael Bradshaw.

Shaun Whitehead had two hits and two RBIs for the Mavericks.

For Grants Pass, Dylan Armanino had three hits, two runs and one RBI.
