Ex-Seahawk fullback special guest at road run
Former Seattle Seahawks all-pro fullback Mack Strong will be the guest of honor for the initial Ashland Rotary Run Saturday at Lithia Park.
The race begins at 8 a.m. at the band shell in Lithia Park. Cost is $20 for the 5K and 10K races, which also includes a pancake breakfast afterward. Registration can be made online — www.AshlandRotaryRun.com — until midnight today or from 7-8 a.m. Saturday in Lithia Park. For more information, call 301-5783.
The Rotary Club of Ashland is sponsoring the run to raise funds and awareness in the effort to eradicate polio.
Strong will walk the 5K portion and will speak at the breakfast. The undrafted free agent from the University of Georgia played his entire 15-year career with the Seahawks.
In 2005, Strong was selected to his first NFL Pro Bowl and was chosen an Associated Press All-Pro. He was again selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006.
Strong retired in the 2007 season when he suffered a herniated disk in his neck during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Strong and his wife, Zoe, devote their time to working with Hope Worldwide, a nonprofit organization.
