Alan B. Holmes scholarship golf tourney set for Oct. 17
The Alan B. Holmes Scholarship Golf Tournament will be Oct. 17 at Rogue Valley Country Club, during which time special tribute will be paid to the late Dom Provost.
Provost, who died in July at age 81, was for years the driving force behind the tournament that raises scholarship money for area students.
The tournament is at 1 p.m. and the format is a two-person scramble. The cost is $75 per player.
A banquet follows the tournament.

The Southern Oregon Renegades minor league football team will host Grays Harbor of Aberdeen, Wash., at 6 p.m. at Spiegelberg Stadium.
The Renegades won the Cascade Division of the North American Football League's Northwest Conference with a 10-0 record. They had a bye last weekend in the first round of the playoffs.
Southern Oregon defeated Grays Harbor 6-3 in the final regular season game.
The winner Saturday advances to face Olympic Division champion Bellingham (10-0) in Bellingham, Wash., Oct. 24.
The NAFL championships are Nov. 14 in Miami.
Tickets are $15 per family, $8 for single admission and $5 for seniors 55-over and kids 7-17. Children under 6 get in free.
The Southern Oregon Roller Derby will hold a benefit, "Where the Wild Wheels Roll," on behalf of the family of Sheldon Masterson, who died in a car accident on Sept. 27.
Masterson and his wife, Cheryl, started a recreational roller derby league which became the Southern Oregon Roller Derby (SORD). At the time of his death, Masterson was SORD head coach.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and bouts begin at 6:30. Cost (or minimum donation) is $7. Donations can be sent to the Roller Odyssey Masterson Family Donation Fund at any PremierWest Bank.

ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon volleyball team jumped ahead one spot in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll.
The Raiders moved up from 16th to 15th after sweeping Oregon Tech last Friday.
SOU is 14-2 overall and 8-1 in Cascade Conference play. It hosts sixth-ranked College of Idaho (13-1, 9-0) Friday and Eastern Oregon (8-6, 6-3) Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
