Crater's D'Inzillo to compete in gymnastics nationals
Allie D'Inzillo of Central Point will compete in the 2010 USA Gymnastics Women's Junior Olympic Level 9 Western Championships this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa.
D'Inzillo, 17, is a high school junior, where she has a 3.50 grade-point average in the Crater Academy of Health and Public Services.
D'Inzillo competes for the Southern Oregon Gymnastics Academy and is coached by Ilian Alexandov and Poli Stancheva.
She placed sixth in the Northwest Regional 21/2 weeks ago, earning the final berth to nationals in her age division. She had an all-around score of 34.20.
She has competed in seven meets this season, scoring 34.775 at state to move on to regionals.
D'Inzillo began in gymnastics at the age of 8 at the Rogue Valley School of Gymnastics. She was on the Southern Oregon Fliers for several years, and joined the optional team in 2004 at Level 7. She sandwiched state titles on bars around a year's hiatus from the sport and began competing at Level 9 last year.

WHITE CITY — Jon DeBenedetti was offered a ride by veteran racer Dane Smith, and DeBenedetti turned it to victory Saturday in the return of late-model racing at Southern Oregon Speedway.
After a bumpy heat race, Smith offered his car to DeBenedetti. Starting in the back of the main event, DeBenedetti won the 50-lap race and the $2,000 winner's share.
In other races, Brian Johnsen swept the super 4's, winning his heat race, the trophy dash and the main event.
Brian Poppa took top honors in pro stock and Toby Judd swept the mini stocks
Racing continues Saturday with a destruction derby, modifieds, pro stocks, super 4's dwarf cars and mini stocks. Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing is at 6 p.m.
