Noland nears sprint-cartitle at S.O. Speedway
Teenager Chad Noland holds a commanding lead as the final regular winged sprint car event of the season approaches tonight at Southern Oregon Speedway in White City.
Noland, 18, has a 121-point edge on Vern Wheeler, while Marissa Earle, 17, is third, 48 points behind Wheeler.
They will race, as will modifieds, super 4's, dwarf cars and mini stocks. Also, the first destruction derby of the season will follow the mains.
In the modified standings, leader Travis Peery has a 60-point edge over C.J. Putnam. Albert Gill and defending champion Mark Wauge are 113 and 132 points out of first, respectively. They have three more races before championship night.
Following the main events will be the first destruction derby of the season.
General admission is $12. The cost is $9 for seniors, children ages 7-12 and military personnel with ID. Kids 6 and under get in free.
Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 6. The track is located off Highway 140 at Kershaw Road.
A North Medford High girls basketball camp for fourth- to ninth-graders will be next Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at the school gym.
The cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt.
