SALEM — Former North Medford soccer player Alex Batzer earned her first career hat trick to help Willamette University defeat Bethel University (Minn.), 5-3, on Sunday.

The senior forward helped the Bearcats (1-2) to their first win.

The three-goal effort was the first for Batzer during her Willamette career. In addition, it was the Bearcats' first hat trick since Lauren Miller tallied three goals against Lewis & Clark College on Oct. 23, 2007.

She scored her first goal — of the game and season — at 25:40 on a header following a corner kick. Batzer then opened the second half with an unassisted goal from 8 yards out. Her final goal came in the 66th minute, providing a 5-2 lead.
