Spartans take 2-0 lead in series

EUGENE — Brandon Burlingame had a goal and an assist and the Southern Oregon Spartans rallied from a one-goal deficit to beat the Eugene Generals 4-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five NORPAC playoff series on Wednesday.

The Spartans can win the series with a Game 3 victory on Friday. Southern Oregon hosts the Generals at 7:30 p.m. at The RRRink.

Vance Bridgman knocked in a goal on an assist from Greg Heimann at 11:28 in the second period to even the game at 2.

Dane Irving netted the go-ahead goal about seven minutes later on a powerplay, and Burlingame helped insulate Southern Oregon's advantage by scoring on a Chris Whitten pass in the third period.

Shane McGuinness netted the Spartans' first goal.

Goalkeeper Mike Peerless made 38 saves for Southern Oregon, who were outshot by Eugene 40-38.
