Bridgman's four goals spark Spartans

EUGENE — Vance Bridgman had a night to remember for the Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team.

The 20-year-old forward from Alaska scored four goals as Southern Oregon closed out Eugene 5-3 in the opening round of the NORPAC playoffs Saturday at the Lane Events Center.

The Spartans, who captured the best-of-5 series against Eugene three games to one, will open the second round at division champion Seattle on Tuesday.

After Christofer Videto gave the Generals a 1-0 lead at the 14:05 mark of the opening period, Southern Oregon answered with goals 10 seconds apart a little less than three minutes later. Mike Feagan scored unassisted at 16:46, followed by Bridgman's first goal off an assist from Dane Irving.

Bridgman tallied the only goal of the second period to stretch the Spartans lead to 3-1 entering the final stanza.

Bridgman scored on a power play six minutes into the third period. Eugene rallied back with goals by Randy Ludwig and Brad Main to cut Southern Oregon's lead to 4-3 with about 81/2 minutes left. Then Bridgman provided some insurance off another Irving assist at 17:07.

Bridgman is the Spartans leading goal scorer with 54 on the season.

Mike Peerless turned away 18 shots in net for the Spartans, while Cory Grummick had 39 saves for the Generals.
