Legg, Flockoi top local boy, girl skiers at state

BEND — Led by Phoenix's Charlie Legg and Crater's Kailey Flockoi, several local skiers fared well at the State High School Alpine Ski Racing Championships at Mount Bachelor Thursday and Friday.

Legg, a junior, placed 10th overall for the boys with a 13th-place finish in the giant slalom and a 23rd place in the slalom.

St. Mary's senior Jake Johnson had the second-best finish overall, taking 26th out of 130 competitors.

North Medford junior Reece Pressman was 12th in the giant slalom, and Crater junior Ean Flockoi captured 13th in the slalom.

Ean's freshman sister, Kailey, finished 17th overall out of 135. She placed 18th in the giant slalom and 19th in the slalom.

North Medford's Rylee Houck was 29th overall, taking 33rd in the slalom and 41st in the giant slalom.

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon track and field athletes David Laney and Holly Haga have been named the Cascade Conference Red Lion Track and Field athletes of the week.

Laney and Haga had huge weekend's at the Cal State Stanislaus Dusty Invitational.

Laney won the 5,000 meters with an impressive time of 14 minutes, 44.92 seconds. The mark is an NAIA "A" standard qualifying mark and is the fourth fastest time in school history.

Haga, a national qualifier as a freshman, opened up the 2011 season with a "B" qualifying throw of 137 feet, 4 inches in the discus, which was good enough for third place.
