Mavericks split twin bill with Roseburg Pepsi

North Medford pitchers Blaine Howitt, Micah Brown and Bryan Carbonell combined to hold Roseburg Pepsi to two runs on three hits as the Mavericks won the first game of a nonconference American Legion A baseball doubleheader Thursday at North Medford High School.

Howitt got the start and limited Roseburg to two runs on two hits in 41/3 innings before Brown and Carbonell shut out the visitors the rest of the way to secure an 8-2 North Medford victory.

Brown picked up the win to improve to 5-0.

Cody Basset and Jake Backon had three hits apiece to help Roseburg win the second game 10-5. Carbonell and Taylor Raff both went 2-for-4 with a triple for the Mavericks (20-7), who have won 11 of their last 13 games.
