Ejections force suspension of RiverDawgs game

STOCKTON, Calif. — Southern Oregon head coach Chris Wolf and assistant Tim Alvarez were both ejected during the second inning of the RiverDawgs' Far West League contest against the California Glory on Wednesday and the game was subsequently suspended at Saint Mary's High.

The contest was scoreless in the top of the second inning when Anthony Renteria was called for a strike. Alvarez and Wolf disputed the call and were ejected, bringing an unusual end to the game.

The RiverDawgs have filed a protest with the league office in regards to the actions taken on Wednesday.

In Tuesday's late action, Southern Oregon split the first two games of the series, losing 9-8 in the opener before taking the second game 5-0.

Matt Bataska threw a complete-game one-hitter in the seven-inning nightcap, retiring the first 12 batters and pitching to only four batters over the minimum. He struck out six, walked one and hit one. Anthony Renteria went 2-for-2 to help his cause.

In the first game, Jace Sloan was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a two-run triple in the ninth that gave the Dawgs a short-lived lead. California rallied with three runs of its own in the bottom of the ninth to win. Drew Fosnes was 2-for-2 before having to be relieved for heat exhaustion and Ryan Hayden was 2-for-5.

The benches cleared twice in the first game of the twin bill but only heated words were exchanged.
