Montana player commits to Ducks

BILLINGS, Mont. — Two-time Montana prep golfing champion Brandon McIver says he will play for the University of Oregon in the 2012-2013 school year.

McIver has won back-to-back state AA individual titles for Billings West, where he will be a senior this fall.

The Billings Gazette reports that McIver told Oregon coach Casey Martin by phone that he is ready to commit to the Ducks.

McIver says he wants to stay in the West and go to a school that is competitive in golf.

Oregon's golf program has qualified for the NCAA championships four times in Martin's five years as coach. The Ducks were third in the nation last year.
