Rodda's clutch hit allows Dawgs to split twin bill

Nick Rodda's ninth-inning single plated pinch-runner Chris Bradshaw with the winning run in extra innings for Southern Oregon as the RiverDawgs opened a nonleague twin bill against the Alaska Goldpanners with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.

In Game 2 at Harry & David Field, the Goldpanners salvaged an amateur baseball split with a 6-2 triumph.

In the opener, RiverDawgs starter Bruce Sanford allowed an unearned run in the first inning but otherwise remained unscathed in eight innings of work. Luke Goodoin pitched a perfect ninth inning to gain the relief victory.

Kory Locken's two-out single scored Marcelino Morales to tie the game at 1-all in the third inning. Locken also singled in the ninth but was thrown out trying to steal second base.

After Jace Sloan hit into a fielder's choice that nabbed Trent Jemmett at second in the ninth, Anthony Renteria drew a walk to keep the inning going. Bradshaw was then inserted to run for Sloan and raced home when Rodda took an 0-1 pitch to right-center field.

In the nightcap, Rodda was 2-for-3 for Southern Oregon (15-17), with Andy Volk driving in a second-inning run and Greg Vrooman scoring on a throwing error in the third.
