Allred fires 66 in qualifying for Nationwide tournament
SYRACUSE, Utah — Golfer Jason Allred continued to play well, making it through Monday qualifying for a spot in the Nationwide Tour's Utah Championship.
Coming off a sixth-place finish in the Colorado Open Sunday, Allred, an Ashland native and Scottsdale, Ariz., resident shot 6-under-par 66 at Glen Eagle Golf Course.
The tournament is Thursday through Sunday at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah, and will air each day on The Golf Channel.
Fourteen players qualified, led by Creighton Honeck, a former University of Arizona golfer from Austin, Texas. Honeck shot a 61, one stroke off the competitive course record.
Twelve players shot 67, but only five survived a playoff for the final spots.
On Sunday, Allred shot a 67 in the final round of the Colorado, tying for sixth at 10 under and pocketing $4,201.67.
The tournament was won by Ben Portie, of Westminster, Colo. His 65 gave him a four-day total of 268, six shots ahead of Allred.
