Comets remain perfect at Legion A state tourney
CENTRAL POINT — Blake Fahndrich singled home what proved to be the winning run with one out in the seventh as Central Point improved to 2-0 in the American Legion A Oregon state tournament with a 7-5 win over Grants Pass Saturday at Anhorn Field.
The Comets (32-19) will play La Grande, the only other 2-0 team left at state, at 6 p.m. today.
Taylor Pardee and Sebastian Reynolds had two hits apiece to lead Central Point. Reynolds also had three RBIs and picked up the pitching victory to improve to 3-2.
Justin Spinner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Chris Leenknecht was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Grants Pass, which plays North Jackson in an elimination game at 3 p.m. today.

BEND NORTH 14, ASHLAND 1, 4 inn. — At Bend, host Bend North scored seven runs in the first three innings to take control en route to a victory over Ashland in the championship round of the 11/12 Oregon state tournament.
Ashland, which won five elimination games to reach the finals after falling in the first round, needed to beat North Bend twice in order to advance to regionals for the first time in team history.
Ashland, the District 6 champion, goes down as the most successful 11/12 Little League baseball team in the town's history.
