Lockwood, McGahuey lead way at speedway
WHITE CITY — Tyler Lockwood and R.J. McGahuey swept the mini stock and dwarf car classes, respectively, at Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday night.
McGahuey had to hold off Kelly Gutches for his A-main win.
In street stocks, points leader Duane Orsburn blew an engine, paving the way for Jordan Braaten to take the checkered flag after trading the lead a couple times with David Thurgood.
Flames spotted underneath the car being driven by Rob Fitzsimmons drew a red flag in the pro stock race, and that allowed points leader Brian Johnsen to prevail.
In modifieds, Dennis Silva took the lead during Lap 17 and held off Nick Trenchard and Mark Wauge for the victory.

COMETS FALL — At Kirkland, Wash., the Southern Oregon Comets' run in the 16-and-under, double-elimination Class A Western National tournament ended Friday at Russell Park.
The Comets fell 2-1 to Nevada. It was their second loss in bracket play.
Southern Oregon, 3-4 in the tournament, pulled within one with a run in the sixth but couldn't add to it.
"We had opportunities, but couldn't come up with the big hits when we needed them," said Comets coach Chris Arnold.
Nevada tallied in the first and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
The Comets' sixth began with a successful one-out drag bunt by Malorie Mitchell, who was sacrificed to second by Sam Owirka.
With two outs, Katie Ramsay's single put runners on the corners, and in the ensuing at-bat, Mitchell crossed home plate on a passed ball.
Emily Murrell limited Nevada to five hits, walked one and added a strikeout.
