Dave Wooley rolled a 300 game in the Grand Sierra Reno League at Roxy Ann Lanes on Aug. 11.

Wooley added scores of 289 and 249 for an 838 series.

Kevin Murphy of Rogue River shot an even-par 71 Monday and is tied for fifth place after the first day of the Pacific Northwest Junior Boys' Amateur Championship at the Meadows Course at Sunriver Resort Monday.

Dylan Wu of Medford was tied for 22nd with a74.

The two were among the 144 players in the field. Play continues through Friday.

Last weekend, Murphy helped the Oregon No. 1 team to fourth place in the Hogan Cup at Riverside Golf Club in Portland.

Murphy was Oregon's top player, tying for seventh place with a two-day total of 5-over-par 149. He shot 74 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday.

The competition brought together 17 teams from the western U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Northern California won the team title with a 437. Washington was a 444, Southern California 446 and Oregon No. 1 451.

Gus Simms and Olivia Dow of the Superior Stingrays helped the Oregon Zone team capture third place recently at the Western Zone Long Course All-Star meet in Clovis, Calif.

The 16-year-old Simms made the finals in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly, placing sixth and fifth, respectively, with personal best times of 1 minute, 1.24 seconds and 2:16.65.

He also had a personal best in the 50 freestyle (27.18) and helped the 4x100 relay team place third.

Dow, 12, earned personal-best marks in the 50 free (32.17), 50 fly (33.87), 200 individual medley (2:50.63) and 50 backstroke (37.49).

She also competed in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, clocking in at 38.74 and 1:27.19, respectively.
