Allred rallies from triple bogey for 1-under round

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Jason Allred overcame a triple bogey on the front nine and remained under par Friday after three rounds of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament at PGA West.

Allred made a 7 on the par-4 seventh hole, but followed it up with three birdies in a round of 1-under 71 on the Stadium course.

The Ashland native and Scottsdale, Ariz., resident is tied for 73rd place at 2-under 214. The top 25 players and ties earn their PGA cards for next year, and the next 50 or so gain full status on the Nationwide Tour.

Twenty-six players completed Round 3 at 209 or better, led by Will Claxton at 203.

Allred began the day tied for 57th and birdied the first hole. Five pars followed before his troubles at No. 7. He then birdied the eighth, 11th and 12th holes.

He begins play today at 9:34 a.m. on the 10th of the Nicklaus Tournament course. His partners again are Charlie Beljan and Andrew Svoboda.

Former Siuslaw player Jesse Schutte shot 74 and is tied for 115th. Ex-Oregon State player Mitch Gillis shot a 75 and dropped to co-157th.
