North Medford product Dixon chosen player of week

KLAMATH FALLS — Former North Medford standout Karissa Dixon has been named the Red Lion women's basketball player of the week for the period ending Jan. 1.

Dixon, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard at Oregon Tech, averaged 15.3 points, eight rebounds and three assists in three victories for the Owls.

She made 51 percent of her shots from the field, nine of her 18 attempts from 3-point range and 9 of 12 free throws.

Dixon helped OIT win its fourth straight with an 18-point, nine-rebound effort against Concordia University Friday. She was 7-for-13 from the field.

ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team, which has won seven of its last eight games, has been named the Verizon team of the week in the Cascade Conference.

The Raiders have a three-game win streak after defeating Concordia University and No. 17 Warner Pacific College at home Thursday and Friday. SOU improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

SOU knocked off Concordia, 80-77, and Warner Pacific, 81-69.

It's the second time the Raiders have been honored this season.

The Medford Rifle and Pistol Club will host a steel challenge match Sunday at the training and reserve ranges at Jackson County Sports Park.

Five steel courses will be set up.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and shooting starts at 9 a.m.

The entry fee is $12.
