Former Ashland runner Mayfield earns academic honor

WASHINGTON — Former Ashland High runner Camelia Mayfield, a sophomore at The Catholic University of America, has earned 2011 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III All-Academic status in cross country.

Mayfield is one of 183 athletes from 96 institutions in the group.

To qualify, athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the most recent semester and placed in the top 35 at regionals.

Mayfield finished 26th at CUA's regional with a time of 24:15.7 for 6,000 meters. She was on the all-region team and helped CUA to 15th place.

She was third in the Landmark Conference championships, making the all-conference first team with a time of 24:46.40.
