Allred opens up season with 2-over 73
BOGOTA, Colombia — Jason Allred shot a 2-over-par 73 in his return to the Nationwide Tour Thursday in the first round of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship.
The Ashland native is tied for 76th place, three shots out of the top 20.
Three players share the lead with 66s entering today's second around. They are Peter Lonard, Brian Smock and Billy Horschel.
Allred, who has full status on a major tour for the first time since 2008, made two double bogeys and two birdies on the front nine, then made all pars on the back side.
Playing in the afternoon, his doubles came at the second hole — a whopping 525-yard par 4 — and at the par-5 eighth hole.
His birdies were on the third and fifth holes, a par 4 and a par 3, respectively.
Thursday's season opener didn't produce dramatically low scores despite the fact that lift, clean and place conditions were in effect, thanks to seasonal rains that produce almost daily afternoon and evening storms.
Allred tees off at 7:50 a.m. local time today, or 4:50 a.m. Pacific. His playing partners are the same as Thursday, Omar Uresti and Darron Stiles. Stiles opened with a 71 and Uresti a 72.
Allred, 31, played four straight years on the PGA (2005, '08) and Nationwide tours (2006, '07). He made his way back through the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in December.
He has yet to win on either tour but has two top-three finishes and six top 10s in 68 career Nationwide events.
