Phoenix senior Max Hamilton, a track and field and cross country athlete, is hosting a benefit concert at the Medford Armory on May 12 that will benefit runners in Ethiopia.
Money raised will be donated to the Tesfa foundation (Tesfa means hope in Amharic, a Semitic language spoken in Ethiopia), which provides safe housing and education for young women — many who are passionate about running — in Addis Ababa.
The event, called "Adansonia," will run from 9 p.m. to midnight and will feature several DJs.
The cost is $10 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased by searching "Adansonia" at www.brownpapertickets.com.
Hamilton's hope is to raise at least $3,600, enough to sponsor three athletes with food, housing and education for a year.
Hamilton will compete at American University in Washington, D.C., next year.
