Boag-Martinez rides Chicks Special Angel to MT Stakes triumph
GRANTS PASS — Jockey April Boag-Martinez had an immediate impact in her inaugural appearance at Grants Pass Downs.
The daughter of veteran jockey Gary Boag picked up three victories Saturday, including a win in the featured Mail Tribune Stakes, during the opener of the nine-day GP Downs season.
Boag-Martinez guided the Don Young-trained Chicks Special Angel to the victory in the $3,400 feature on the 10-race card.
Chicks Special Angel went off as a 5-2 co-favorite with Cupids Dash and returned $7.60 to win on a $2 bet.
Roberts Running Boot, the 2009 Firecracker Futurity winner, finished second in the 350-yard quarter horse dash. Roberts Running Boot is owned by Selma horseman Carl Alleman and was ridden by Tad Skaggs.
Jockey Ruben Camacho matched Boag-Martinez with three wins on the card.
The opening day handle was $27,757.
Because of technical problems, full results and payout prices were not available.
Racing continues today with a 1 p.m. post time for a 10-race card, which features a six-horse field in the $2,800 Daily Courier Inaugural thoroughbred allowance.
