Trio of jockeys win pair of races at GPD
GRANTS PASS — Jockeys Tad Skaggs, Hugo Herrera and Troy Stillwell each rode a pair of winners to highlight horse racing action Saturday at Grants Pass Downs.
Skaggs guided Captain Gavel to a victory in the opening race of a 10-race card at GPD, then returned in the seventh race to ride Color Me Tuff to a runaway win.
Herrera's first win of the day came aboard Magic Dust in the fourth race and he backed that up with another strong showing in the sixth race aboard Shakalaka.
Stillwell saved his best for later in the day, steering Scarlett's Mark to a commanding win in the eighth race before turning right around in the ninth race to guide Tucannon to victory.
Tim Neal rode Seattle Diner to a victory in the second race, while Jose Guerrero was aboard the winner in the third race, Hawkin Wally. Luis Gonzalez rallied Raising Kane to a first-place effort in the fifth race and Jake Samuels closed out the day with a triumph aboard Swiss Ace in the 10th race.
Handle for the day at GPD was $26,864. Racing continues today at the race track, with post time at 1 p.m.
